With the growing interest of children and adults in judo in Dobřany — which had been taking place as part of the activities of the Budulínek Family Centre — the need arose to establish a new association focused directly on this activity, with the option of registration in the Czech Judo Federation. Registering members in this organization is a prerequisite for taking part in competitions, tournaments and other activities focused directly on this kind of sport, and by founding the sports club RuKa JUDO, z. s., the possibilities of further developing the membership base and securing better conditions and opportunities for both smaller and larger judokas are increasing.

As of this September, then, 52 children aged 5 to 18 and 22 adults are now training under the banner of RuKa JUDO, z. s., and new applicants keep coming. Our goal for the years ahead is to build a strong judo base in Dobřany so that we can increase the frequency of training, at which we will be able to improve the competitors’ technical and physical fitness — which is necessary if we are to be a competitive club and represent the town of Dobřany with honor.

We will begin working on these plans as early as January 2018, first by extending the age range of our judokas — we will newly open training for our youngest, the preschoolers, which will take place every Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. At the same time, we are not forgetting the adult population, who can come to judo training on Friday from 5:00 p.m. We start from the basics and are not limited by age or fitness; judo has the advantage that you can start training it at any age, even just for fun. Furthermore, from the new year we are extending training for school-age youth to twice a week — the younger group (mláďata) aged 7–9 on Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 3:00 p.m., and the younger and older pupils aged 10–15 on Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 4:00 p.m.

As part of the judokas’ preparation, we also organize several weekend and holiday camps where, in cooperation with other judo clubs, coaches and successful competitors, we exchange valuable experience and advice that we then incorporate into our year-round preparation.

Judo as a sport and a martial art is suitable for girls and boys, men and women of every age. Judo encompasses a whole range of movements and a hundred techniques that have something to offer everyone. The fundamentals of judo are also suitable for a wide range of sports and activities, and it can be used as a complementary sport to football, handball, basketball and so on.

To all members of RuKa JUDO, z. s. — both the judokas and the association’s leadership — go great thanks for their dedication on the mat and beyond it. Together with our supporters, they help us grow and develop.

I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a happy new sporting year.
