Self-defense remains an ever-relevant topic for children and adults alike. All fans of this activity who gathered on Saturday, November 9, 2019, in the premises used by the RuKa JUDO association together with the Budulínek Family Centre had the chance to hear the theory and try self-defense techniques in practice.

Both children and adults came to the event. To begin with, a presentation awaited them covering theoretical knowledge, the history of martial arts, a few examples of what is happening here and around the world, and also a discussion on the topic of where, in everyday life, the need for self-defense can arise. Then came the practical part — a demonstration of restraint tools such as pepper sprays, telescopic batons and others, including information on how to handle them so that they are useful to us. And the final part was physical training — kicks and strikes into focus mitts, boxing gloves and helmets, plenty of movement and adrenaline. Coach Karel Fojtík guided everyone through the whole afternoon with the help of Lenka Oravcová, and the participants went home with theoretical knowledge as well as sweated-through tricks — but, as it seemed, satisfied.

Our club again has several more competitions behind it. At the end of September there was a competition in Mariánské Lázně, where Tomáš Hančík took 3rd place and Filip Hančík 2nd place.

In October too our competitors celebrated success at the tournament for younger and older boys and girls in Tábor, where Filip Hančík finished in 1st place and Daniel Šimon in 4th place. Our next competitive trip led to Teplice; the Grand Prix of the Town of Teplice was attended by 36 teams and over 300 competitors, not only from the Czech Republic but also from Poland and Germany. Šimon Voller fought his way to 1st place here, Tomáš Hančík took 2nd place, and Jan Eichler 3rd place.

The first November competition for us was held in Prachatice, where Filip Hančík took 2nd place; our other competitor Daniel Šimon, facing strong competition, did not manage to fight his way onto the podium. At the Ing. Petr Radoš Memorial in Domažlice, Šimon Voller and Filip Hančík won 1st places, Vojtěch Hrubeš took 3rd place, David Chmelík, Matěj Khás, Pavel Škrlant and Jan Eichler took 4th places, and Daniel Šimon and Tomáš Hančík took 5th places.

At the end of the year 2 more competitions await our judokas, followed by rest over the Christmas holidays and gathering strength for 2020 and the further competitions ahead of us.
